Applicant must contribute financially to the pet's medical bill(s). You must be applying for your personal pet unless you are assisting someone with the application for their own pet. We can only accept applications and required documentation that is submitted online through our application, email, or via text message (we will provide you with a number if needed).

  • Pet qualifications: Pet (dog, cat, or other domestic household pet) must be diagnosed with a chronic medical condition that requires lifelong or long-term prescription medication or food. Conditions include, but are not limited to:

    • Cushing’s disease

    • Addison’s disease

    • Thyroid disease (hyperthyroidism or hypothyroidism)

    • High blood pressure

    • Diabetes

    • Heart disease

    • Epilepsy/long-term seizure medication

    • Life-long eye medication

    • Rx food for kidney disease

    • Rx food for liver disease

    • Rx food for urinary diseases

    • Quality of life allergy/skin medications (example: Atopica, Apoquel)*

    • Quality of life arthritis medication

*Your pet must already be taking Apoquel. We do not provide assistance for new Apoquel prescriptions.

We do not provide assistance for controlled substances (exception is phenobarbital for a seizure disorder) or prescription anti-anxiety medication including alprazolam, fluoxetine, and trazadone unless it is specifically prescribed for a senior pet with dementia. We will require an email from your vet to us confirming this. Additionally, we do not provide assistance for cancer medication or any over the counter medications or specialty foods. We only provide assistance for select prescription supplements (eg: liver supplements). We do not provide assistance for prescription joint supplements and we reserve the right to decline any requested medication we feel does not meet our requirements.

The Bobo Fund does not reimburse for previously purchased medications or food or make payments directly to the pet owner. We make payment directly to your prescribing veterinarian or pharmacy* towards the cost of FUTURE approved medication/food only. If you get your pet's prescription from an online pharmacy, please note that we only work with a select number of online pharmacies due to privacy concerns. We will discuss options with you when you apply.

*CVS, Walgreens, Costco, Walmart, and other similar pharmacies do not allow payment to be called in over the phone. If you receieve your pet's medication from one of these pharmacies, we can call in payment to your vet for the funding period.

Approval and length of assistance may vary depending on the medication, number of medications requested, and available funding. Our goal is to help pet owners on a temporary basis, for a minimum of 30 days, a maximum of 90 days. Most grants are around $150 for the first pet, and $100 for an additional pet with chronic needs in the same household. Assistance is granted ONE-TIME per household. When you apply, please include all pets in need of assistance. You will not be able to apply again.

When your application has been approved, you will receive details about how much medication we are able to assist with. If any medication is over the maximum amount, we will only be able to provide subsidization of costs. Additionally, at any time, we may be at capacity for funding and unable to provide assistance. If funding is not available please check the "Additional Resources" tab.

We do NOT have geographic restrictions, but you must be located within the US.
