What does The Bobo Fund do?

The Bobo Fund provides temporary one-time assistance to help pay for prescription medication or prescription food that is needed for a pet's chronic medical condition when their owner is facing financial hardship. This means your pet will require this medication or food for the rest of their life. We do not provide assistance for other medications like preventatives, antibiotics, or pain medication unless they are required to treat a chronic illness.

What are some examples of "chronic medical conditions?"

Diabetes, hypothyroidism, Cushing's disease, heart disease, seizure disorders, chronic dry eye. You can find a comprehensive list of examples here, or ask us if you are unsure.

How much of my pet's medication will be paid for?

One-time grants will be made directly to your pet's prescribing veterinarian or approved pharmacy, not to the pet owner. Maximum assistance awarded is around $150 per household. If more than one pet has a chronic medical condition, an additional $100 per pet may be granted if funds are available. If any medication is over the maximum amount, we will only be able to provide subsidization of costs. Additionally, at any time, we may be at capacity for funding and unable to provide assistance.

How do I prove financial hardship?

Some examples are termination notice, unemployment benefits letter, first page of most recent tax return, 2 months of pay stubs, eviction notice, section 8 housing approval letter, disability/SSI benefits letter, photo of Medicaid or SNAP card. We will no longer accept credit card or bank statements as proof of hardship.

What if I do not have access to a computer?

Our application is mobile-friendly. If you have trouble filling out the application, we recommend that you ask a friend or family member for assistance. We cannot accept applications and documentation that is not submitted either through the application or via email. We can offer the option to text if needed.

Can you pay for my pet's medication at CVS, Walgreens, or a grocery pharmacy? Unfortunately, no. These pharmacies actually do not allow payment over the phone. If you receive your pet's medication from one of these pharmacies, we are able to call in payment to your prescribing veterinarian during the funding period. We will try to work with you to find an option.

I get my pet's medication/food from Chewy.com. Can you have it shipped from there?

We no longer order or ship food or medication from Chewy due to privacy and security concerns. If you are able to pick-up your pet's prescription from your vet during the funding period, we can call in payment to your prescribing veterinarian.

Why do you only provide medication for chronic medical conditions? My pet has other needs.

We only provide prescription medication or prescription food for chronic medical conditions because many financial aid services specifically exclude chronic conditions from their funding. There are many other resources for other needs like pet food, spay/neuter, vaccines, and preventatives that can be found on pets.findhelp.com and pethelpfinder.org

How can I apply to receive assistance from The Bobo Fund?

Fill out the pre-screen questionnaire on our website to see if you qualify for the application for assistance. When/if funding is available, we will email the application for you to complete. Please keep an eye on your inbox as you will only have 72 hour to complete the application to ensure funding is available.

I have two pets with chronic medical conditions. Can I get help for both of them or do I have to choose?

We will provide up to $150 for the first pet, and $100 towards the second pet if they also have chronic medical needs. You may only apply one time, so please make sure to include both pets on your application.

My pet is on a specialty diet that my vet recommended for their chronic medical condition. Do I qualify?

We typically only provide assistance for food that was prescribed by your pet's veterinarian, but if you believe you may be an exception, you can always ask.

Can you accept donated medication?

If you have unopened, unexpired medication in its original packaging, and we have someone on our waitlist or who we have previously assisted and they are willing to accept donated medication, we can connect you with them to get the medication directly.

We can also accept unused insulin syringes mailed to our PO Box. Email info@thebobofund.org for the address.

My pet is sick and I need help paying for the visit.

Unfortunately, our assistance does not cover sick, emergency, specialty, or any other kind of vet visit.

My pet needs to be tested before they can get their medication.

Unfortunately, our funding does not cover any kind of lab testing, procedure, or office visits.

I need help paying for my pet to be euthanized.

We are so sorry you are having to go through this. We recommend contacting your local shelter or humane society for low-cost euthanasia options.

What happens when I run out of medication that was paid for by The Bobo Fund?

The Bobo Fund is only intended to provide temporary, one-time assistance. Please determine before applying that you require urgent assistance as you will not be able to apply again.

I have existing veterinary bills, but some of them are for chronic medications.

The Bobo Fund only helps with the cost of FUTURE medication. When approved, medication will either be shipped directly to you, or we will call in payment to your veterinarian to pay for the cost of the medication only.

If you have any other questions, please do not hesitate to send an email to info@thebobofund.org
